“A bunch of my friends and I went to the rooftop bar of a hotel. About a half-hour before midnight, I ran down to my car because I had forgotten my camera. I figured I would have plenty of time to get back up there and find my friends. I grabbed my camera and got into an elevator all by myself. About halfway up, the elevator started shaking and stopped completely. I was trapped. A guy came on over the loudspeaker and told me there was an electrical short but he would have me out soon. A few minutes later, I could hear people outside counting down and celebrating. I didn’t get out until almost one in the morning. The worst part was, my friends hadn’t even missed me!” —Elena, 25
“Every year I throw a big dinner party on December 31st. I was really excited last year because I had been dating a guy for a few months and was glad to have someone to kiss when the ball dropped. We hadn’t talked much between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but I figured he was busy with the holidays. I cooked all day and made a great meal. My guy showed up late and the party was in full swing. When everyone sat down for dinner we went around the table and said what we hoped for next year. I said I wanted to take more trips with my boyfriend. Then it was his turn. He sat there silently for a minute. Then he muttered that he couldn’t date me anymore and got up and left. I was devastated. He hadn’t given me any clues that he was unhappy. I spent the rest of the night crying in my room.” —Vanessa, 29
“My boyfriend, Jim, and I usually stay in for New Year’s, but a few years back we decided to go to a big club. It cost a lot of money to buy tickets, but we figured it was a nice treat. We drank fancy cocktails, danced, and were having a blast. Then, while Jim was in the bathroom, this creepy guy started trying to grind on me. I told him to back off, but he was really aggressive. When Jim came back, he saw what was going on and told the guy to step back. The guy was a freak and started screaming, and then he stormed off. A few minutes later a bouncer came up to us and told us we were being kicked out. The creep had lied and said Jim had pushed him and acted crazy. We tried to explain the real situation, but no one would listen. We were forced to leave without a refund, and rang in the holiday by walking home to my apartment.” —Jessica, 31
“I live with my sister and she went out of town over New Year’s. I had been dying to borrow this new silver silk dress she’d recently bought, but she wouldn’t lend it to me. She hadn’t worn it yet, and had spent a ton of money on it. I decided to sneak the dress out of her closet to wear to a party. I figured I would just be careful and she would never know. I got so many compliments on the dress and had a great time. I was careful to only drink clear liquids, so there’d be no chance of staining it. At midnight the party went crazy, everyone was hugging and cheering. One guy came up to kiss my cheek and accidentally tripped. His cranberry drink went flying down the whole front of the dress. I immediately ran to the sink to wash it off, but it wouldn’t come out. I spent the rest of the night stressing out telling my sis. I ended up calling her to confess and she really let me have it.” —Ann, 23
“I have been together with my boyfriend, Eric, for several years. One of his female friends has always bothered me, and I can tell she has feelings for him. What’s worse is that she’s a total bitch to me. Anyway, on New Year’s Eve, we went to a friend’s house and she was there. She kept trying to take Eric’s attention away from me, but I just ignored her. Throughout the night she got progressively more drunk. Right at midnight, Eric turned to kiss me and she slid in between us and tried to make out with him. Her nerve shocked me. Eric immediately pushed her away, and she just smiled at me. The mental image of them kissing was not how I wanted to start my new year. The rest of the night she went around telling people what good lips he had. Eric literally had to restrain me from slapping her!” —Karen, 21

On February 6, Fox will reward its hit show, Glee, with the best lead-in of the year: The Superbowl. And Glee isn’t about to miss an opportunity to shine for that extra, added gaggle of viewers. Entertainment Weekly has reported that the post-Superbowl episode is not only supersized, but also the most Glee expensive episode to date. (And maybe even the priciest of any TV show.)
What will viewers get for the money? The regular episode (i.e. not a specific tribute to one artist) will feature its own, high school football game. During that game’s half-time, there will be a performance mash-up of Michael Jackson‘s “Thriller” and another, as-yet-unnamed song. The end product isn’t what you’d expect. “It’s definitely Glee-ified,” Lea Michele told Broadwayworld.com.
Since Black Eyed Peas is the actual Superbowl’s halftime entertainment, it’s only natural that the Glee kids would take on one of their songs. Gleeks can also watch for covers of Lady Antebellum and Katy Perry. (Ten bucks says the Perry song will be “Hot N Cold,” since they did “Teenage Dream” last month.)
As for guest stars, Gwyneth Paltrow‘s kooky substitute teacher (last seen on the November 16th episode) will return, and (much more randomly) Katie Couric will also cameo.
Will Couric sing? If so, I hope she’s got pipes. Lots of people are going to be watching!

Now that Bristol Palin has left Alaska for Arizona, where she has just purchased a $172.000 five-bedroom home for cash, friends of the family are asking how much longer momma Sarah will call the great state home?

“Sarah has been looking at homes in Arizona, too,” an insider tells me. “She wants to be close to her daughter and only grandchild.”
Bristol was working as a receptionist in a doctor’s office before her mother ran for vice President and Bristol was cast on ‘Dancing With The Stars.’ Now they have both made so much money they can live anywhere they want to.
“Both Sarah and Bristol are millionaires and have had enough of Alaska,” a dancing friend of Bristol’s tells me. “After spending so much time in Los Angeles it doesn’t surprise me at all that they are looking to move. Both were always raving about the sunshine and the fact you didn’t need a sun bed to get a suntan. I think Alaska has taken Sarah about as far as it can and now its time for her to move to the next state that can help her get the one thing she wants so much. To be President of all 50 states one day.”
Good luck Arizona. Lets hope you are big enough for both Palins and her Presidential running mate Senator John McCain.

Giving a guy your digits requires finesse. Read on for a few tips that will make your dating life a lot easier!
Do remember that confidence is key
Most dudes are terrified to ask for a girl’s info. So if you’ve been chatting up a nice, cute guy all night, don’t be afraid to take the reins. Grab a cocktail napkin—old-school style—and scribble your digits down. Hand it to him, and tell him that you’d love to keep the conversation going some other time.
Don’t give him your email if you wouldn’t give him your phone number
If you’re not enjoying his company, and you don’t want to see him again, don’t suggest swapping emails, in lieu of numbers, and hope he gets the hint. Instead, it’s best to follow the advice in the next point.

Do let him know if you’re just not that interested
If you don’t like him, don’t give him your contact info. Neither of you will benefit if you ignore all of his calls and texts. Of course you don’t want to be rude when you turn him down–and you don’t have to be. I know it can be tempting to tell him a white lie, but it’s best to politely decline.
Don’t give out a fake number
This is so mean! We’re not in middle school anymore, so rather than prank the poor guy, just let him down easy.

Day 1

A big presentation at work calls for understated sophistication. My favorite lip stain adds polish to my basics—a hint of blush and mascara—but doesn’t steal the show.
Time: 10 seconds*
Tools: Bobbi Brown Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Raspberry
* Mascara, foundation, and concealer application time not included.
Day 2

Some looks are best left to the pros. My attempt at glossy lids (so gorgeous in magazines!) smeared my mascara in seconds.
Time: 30 seconds
Tools: Aquaphor Healing Ointment
Day 3

Bold brows have been a runway mainstay the past few seasons, but I can hardly find the courage to show my roommate, let alone leave the house.
Time: 4 minutes
Tools: M.A.C Impeccable Brow Pencil in Black
Day 4

Tired of the same-old, same-old black smoky eye? Me too. As an alternative, I swap in gold and copper metallics instead. Focusing the pigment on the eyelid and away from the brow bone keeps the look subtle.
Time: 7 minutes
Tools: Urban Decay eye shadow in Half Baked and Smog
Day 5

No foray into makeup experimentation would be complete without red lipstick. I choose an orange-based glossy shade and skip lipliner for a softer look. Surprisingly, no grocery-store stares. Are power lips less shocking than I thought?
Time: 1 minute
Tools: NYX Luscious Lip Palette in Red Rediscovered
Day 6

A beauty mirage, dewy skin is hard to achieve naturally, but, thankfully, easy to fake. I apply a cream highlighter on the top of my cheekbones, brow bone, and bridge of my nose. Voilà!
Time: 2 minutes
Tools: Nars The Multiple in Copacabana
Day 7

I love the deep purple lids makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury layered on at Victoria Beckham’s spring show, so I give it an enthusiastic try, dusting the shadow up to the brow bone. I’m hooked!
Time: 4 minutes
Tools: Lancôme Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow Smooth Hold in Trendy
Day 8

Big blush, applied on the apples of cheeks and the temples, was a hit at shows like Christian Siriano. Inspired, I blend in a cream formula, and love the bright pop of color. White eyeliner finishes the fresh look.
Time: 45 seconds
Tools: Maybelline New York Dream Mousse Blush in Pink Frosting; CoverGirl LashBlast Length Mascara in Very Black
Day 9

Dark lips, a major fall trend, scare me, so I try a slightly more ladylike cabernet. Don’t forget to use a lip brush for application—bold hues require a precise line.
Time: 1 minute
Tools: Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense in Satin Blackcurrant
Day 10

I try the (surprisingly flattering!) orange lipstick trend, à la Marc by Marc Jacobs, balancing the extreme color with bare skin.
Time: 1 minute
Tools: Kanebo Sensai Lasting Treatment Rouge in Soubi
Day 11

To make the glittery disco eyes spotted at Giles more wearable, I opt for one color—turquoise—focused only on the lid. The result is glamorous, perfect for date night. Tip: Use a cream shadow as a base and apply the glitter with a damp shadow brush to help it stick to the skin.
Time: 10 minutes
Tools: Paint Pot in Constructivist, Pro Glitter in Turquoise, Pro Mixing Medium Water Base, all
by M.A.C
Day 12

A late night out leaves me with droopy, tired eyes. To brighten up, I line my lower lid with white liner and the top with navy. The uplifting effects are instant. Darker skin tones can try light beige or gold instead of white for the same results.
Time: 2 minutes
Tools: Revlon Luxurious Color Kohl Eyeliner in Pure White, Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Blue Ribbon
Day 13

Pink lipstick yields compliments galore! Perhaps my favorite look so far. If you’re blond, try paler hues, redheads look best in peachy pinks, and brunettes, like me, can play with fuchsia shades.
Time: 30 seconds
Tools: Benefit Ultra Shines Lip Shine in Wild Child
Day 14

Cat eyes convey instant retro glamour, but judging from my friends’ reactions (“Are you serious?” was the most common response), my version might work best for a masquerade party.Time: 10 minutes
Tools: Single Eyeshadow in Night Fever, Duo Eyeshadow in Pandora, Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Belle de Jour, all by Nars
Day 15

Fascinated by the vibrant makeup of Bollywood films, I try my own rainbow lids, anchoring the look with orange shadow. My girlfriends are wowed, but my guy friends don’t seem to notice—shocker.Time: 10 minutes
Tools: Yaby eye shadows in Just Orange, Total Alien, Funky Plum, and Carbon Paper
Day 16

My daily routine isn’t complete without two coats of mascara, but special occasions like a friend’s birthday call for fake lashes. I apply a dramatic pair along the upper lid and a natural-looking pair along the lower (I cut them to fit) for instant doll eyes.Time: 15 minutes
Tools: Ardell Fashion Lashes in Black and Lower Black
Day 17

From Nina Ricci to Alexander Wang, red eye shadow has experienced a surprising burst in popularity. Avoid looking like you have allergies by going heavy on black eyeliner and mascara.Time: 12 minutes
Tools: M.A.C eye shadow in Coppering and Cranberry; Milani Eye Tech Liquid Liner
Day 18

Bright eyeliner is a stroke of genius: minimum effort with maximum impact. The green shade (applied with a liner brush) gets major attention at a party. Tip: For easy application, tilt your head back slightly while drawing the line.Time: 1 minute
Tools: Borghese Polychromatic Shadow in Sensual Sage
Day 19

A last-minute dinner invite leaves no time to run home and freshen up. Luckily, mega eyeliner smudged out for a sultry nighttime vibe transforms my face in seconds—and earns more bad pickup lines than just my usual mascara. To avoid raccoon eyes later, I run a Q-tip over the inner lash lines to absorb excess moisture.
Time: 1 minute
Tools: L’Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Kohl Eyeliner in Black Kohl
Day 20

A version of hard-to-wear two-tone lips: Try a highlighting gloss in the center of your favorite lip color.
Time: 3 minutes
Tools: e.l.f. Hypershine Gloss in Vixen and Honey
Day 21

I attempt to re-create the blue smoky eye that makeup artist Tom Pecheux created at fall’s Derek Lam show. One word: obsessed.
Time: 8 minutes
Tools: Estée Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow in Nocturnal Blue

If you are thinking of getting in shape and it has been a while, you might consider bringing on board an exercise partner. There are a number of benefits to having a fitness partner. Starting an exercise regime may be difficult to stick with initially especially if you are alone. Whether you are walking, running outside, exercising at home or perhaps decide to join a gym, having a friend to exercise with will make your transition much easier. If you are a female and beginning an exercise program, you may be self-conscious about your overall physical appearance, but having someone else with you will draw your attention to your partner. No doubt, your partner will provide much needed moral support as you may support them as well.
Tips to Becoming a Good Fitness Partner
Having an exercise buddy to either meet or go with, first requires synchronizing your time together. Knowing that someone else is dependent on you provides for a sense of responsibility to your buddy such that you know you have to show up. Furthermore, when you become discouraged or bored with your routine, your partner exercise workouts will help you to continue and achieve your goals. You can help each other keep records on your progress by weighing each other and making body measurements. This way you can’t cheat because, someone else is watching you!
There is no doubt that there are many benefits of having a fitness partner. Exercise partners can divert your attention by chatting about things of interest as you go through a somewhat repetitious routine allowing time to pass by quickly. You can compete with each other to add some excitement and competition to your routine, if you work best with that. It is important to provide rewards for each other whether it is compliments or lunch out. Having an exercise buddy goes far beyond motivation by supplying support and safety. Remember, there is safety in numbers. This is certainly true if you are outside on the streets, nature trails or even at the gym.
Other Workout Partner Suggestions
Finding a workout partner may be difficult at first. Not everyone is at the same level of fitness or interested in the same forms of exercise. One person’s idea of what fitness is may be different from yours. Personalities come into play as well, and you need to consider this. Workout partner suggestions are discussed in the following paragraphs to assist you in finding an appropriate partner for your fitness routine. This will help you get started but is by no means complete. It may take you a while to find the right work out partner, but stick with it.
It may seem obvious but you need to find someone who does the same form of exercise. If you’re interested in outdoor biking, you don’t need someone who is into running on a treadmill. If you are a long distance runner, you will need to find someone who is a marathon runner and not someone who runs shorter distances. Make sure your exercise buddy has similar workout regimens or the relationship will not work. It is also important to match your fitness levels. Ideally, you and your exercise partner should be at a similar fitness levels. If they are below your level they may prevent you from reaching your goals and if they are at a much higher level, you may hurt yourself trying to keep up or just plain quit. For example, if you are beginning to exercise don’t try to recruit someone who has been exercising for years. Additionally, your exercise partner should have an interest in achieving the same goals that you have. Suppose your goal is to lose five pounds a week, then your exercise partner should be on this schedule as well. Doing the same exercise at the same fitness level will ensure that both of you achieve the same goal.
It is a good idea to stay away from people that have health issues whether physical or mental. Beware of individuals who have negative attitudes and use constant criticism when they are communicating with you. Many people suffer from anxiety and depression these days and can be very disruptive to your goals. Take the time to chose the very best exercise partner you can and there should no reason for you not to succeed.
There are many benefits of having partner exercise workouts. An exercise pal will help motivate you, support you and keep you safe. Remember to choose your partner wisely. Look for someone with the same fitness level, does the same type of exercises and has the same fitness goals. Make sure your partner has a positive mental attitude and supports you at all times and you should be well on your way to achieving your goals.
